Todd Newman has served on the Junior Achievement Board of Directors and has been volunteering since 1998 at Riley Elementary and Clay City Elementary; teaching second and fifth grade classes about being a business owner and entrepreneur. He participated on the Christmas in the Park, Junior Achievement Bowl-a-thon, and the “On Target for free Enterprise” Sporting Clay Shoot.
In 2008, Newman established the Janet Sue’s Helping Hand Foundation through the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, in memory of his late mother, Janet Newman. The foundation builds handicap ramps for needy families in the community at no cost to the families. The foundation is funded through donations and a percentage of Newman Company’s profits, and labor is entirely volunteer based.
Most recently, Todd was chosen to be one of the “stars” in Terre Haute Dancing with the Stars in 2016 among 12 others. The event benefits Chances and Services for Youth, CASY for short. CASY has been serving the Wabash Valley since 2013, and Todd has always been a supporter by attending and donating each year. Once Maureen, Todd’s wife of 32 years and high school sweetheart signed him up, Todd really wanted to win and support CASY as much as he could. With his connections in Terre Haute and his fierce competitive spirit, Todd was able to raise almost $80,000 in donations and volunteer work. Along with his friends, family, NCI staff, suppliers, and trade contractors, Todd was able to take home 1st place.
